Aaron 1/20/14 Find, Teach, Baptize!!

January 20, 2014

Hey all, how's it going? I hope your weeks were half as awesome as mine was! haha
Springfield is awesome! I can hardly believe I've only been here a week and a half, it feels like I've been here forever!

Dad, that's really weird that you were here a couple years ago. Did you stay in the Springfield Marriott?

The town here is pretty old, and unfortunately is past its hayday. We hear stories all the time of how awesome Springfield used to be, but it's turned into the "projects" now. Though in all reality, it isn't all that bad! There's some rougher part of town, but it's no worse than parts of Newark are. People here love this town, it's a real home to them, and that's why they're here. It's actually pretty cool. We've been using a door approach recently about families. "We've been going around the area today talking to people about families, and it's really interesting that no matter who we talk to, no matter the situations or struggles at home, the family is still one of the most important things to them. Why do you think that is?" In a world where families are under attack, we are doing everything we can to build them up and bring them closer to Christ.

We've been wanting more people to teach here, even though we have a pretty good teaching pool, so we've been focusing on finding new investigators, with success! Through effective planning by the spirit, the Lord led us to those who have been ready to hear the message of the gospel! And the members here are playing a huge part as well! We found a small family with the help of our meal coordinator this week, and we ended up having dinner with them on Saturday and begin to teach them about the Gospel. They are open-minded and really want to learn more. Nikki, the mom, was raised Catholic, but we know that she's felt the Spirit in her life.

Unfortunately, this week was also filled with an unusually large amount of dropped appointments. It's like nobody can hear us knocking on the door! So this next week we've set a goal for many more lessons, especially lessons with a member present! One of the biggest helps that members can do it let the members know when they are available to go to lessons and help fellowship their investigators. The saddest thing to see is when an investigator is more converted to the missionary, and they never really knew how to get members out with them.

Thanks for everything!! Love and miss y’all!
